What is Lavandin?

Lavandin super(Lavandula intermedia super or Lavandula x burnatii clone super or Lavandula hybrida super) is in fact a hybrid created by crossing Lavandula aspic(Lavandula latifolia) and True Lavender(Lavandula angustifolia or Lavandula vera or Lavandula officinalis). Lavandin has a higher yield than True Lavender. In fact, one hectare of Lavandin produces 100 kg of essential oil, whereas one hectare of True Lavender yields only 15 kg. This is one of the reasons whyLavandin essential oil is less expensive than True Lavender, and one of the most economical on the market.

Lavandin Grosso essential oil(Lavandula intermedia grosso) is even more economical than Lavandin Super essential oil(Lavandula intermedia super), which is reserved for household use as it is less interesting for aromatherapy.

Why use Lavandin essential oil in your laundry?

Using Lavandin essential oil in homemade laundry detergent

We often start usingLavandin essential oil in our laundry when we decide to make our own. The recipe is very simple to make, and you're sure to get a product that's both hypoallergenic and highly economical.

To prepare your detergent, here's a recipe inspired by the website of Marius Fabre, soap-maker since 1900 : start by heating a liter of water. Once boiling, remove from heat and add 20 grams of Marseille soap shavings. Mix well to obtain a homogeneous mixture. Leave to cool. Meanwhile, place a tablespoon of baking soda in a small bowl and add 10 drops ofLavandin essential oil. Mix well. For your information, essential oils do not mix with water. So it's essential to incorporate them into a water-soluble ingredient, or use a dispersant or emulsifier. When your soapy water is lukewarm, add the contents of your bowl and mix again. Once your detergent has cooled completely, transfer it to a plastic canister or, if you really want to go zero waste, a glass bottle.

Using Lavandin essential oil in commercial detergents

You don't have to go DIY to enjoy the benefits of essential oils for your laundry. In fact, if you don't feel up to "cooking" for a homemade detergent and you're happy with the one you usually buy, you can still useLavandin essential oil. There are several ways of doing this. You can, for example, put 2 drops on a washcloth and place it in the drum of your washing machine among the dirty laundry. You can also add the essential oil directly to your liquid detergent, at a rate of 10 drops per liter of detergent.
